A Saturday night BBQ
We had a BBQ/party tonight at our place. Rachel got me a grill for Father’s Day and we put it to good use tonight. We also had some fun music playing. Though it wasn’t the food/music that made it fun, it was the people.
We invited mainly folks we know from church. 10 couples in all (tight squeeze in our home). Great individuals, full of integrity and character. But also very talented, sharp and driven. Some are in dental school, others in finance, others doing their own thing in entrepreneurship. All very impressive. All the exact types I look to associate myself with. These people are going places. “Birds of a feather flock together.”
During these last few years, I’ve learned more than ever that people and relationships are what seem to matter most. Not only do they matter most but they seem to bring us the most happiness. My relationship with my wife. My relationship with my family. My relationship with my friends. My relationship with my coworkers. My relationship with God. How am I treating them? How am I serving them? How am I nurturing and building those relationships? How am I listening, as opposed to just talking? How am I caring?
Answers to these questions seem to be directly correlated with my own fulfillment and happiness. I still have a long way to go (super long way to go)…but there aren’t many things more important to be working on.
